This is a book about the ISTD project ‘A Life’s Work’ about Adrian Frutiger. It shows the process from start to finish as if I was telling you a story. My main aim was to describe the route I passed in order to create the final outcome that you can see physically. I was trying to reflect on every decision I made and every direction I followed.
This all starts with making research.
I have talked to many people asking them to talk about Adrian Frutiger.
‘The Complete Works, Adrian Frutiger’ was my primary book for research and inspiration.
The binder consists also from the sketches and thoughts. Here I was researching the way how a typographic designer works.
I was also thinking how can I apply the quotes and interviews in a visually interesting way.
Every page has captions, so a reader can follow my way of thinking.
Through the whole process of working I was sure, that Adrian‘s quotes are very important in the book.
For the first varians of my book Adrian Frutiger‘s quotes were places on the jacket of the book, that can be later used as a poster.
Printing mock-ups is very important in the book making. You will never get the real sense of the book just through the images on the screen. So here are the mock-ups I was printing during this project.
Final layouts for the first printed and bound copy. Incide there are interviews, quotes, Adrian‘s sketches and letters that can be traced and put on the wall.
The book was very close to the postcard size. And all the pages that could be torn and drawn over could fit everywhere perfectly.
I was working with different papers and other materials, including oracle plotter film making covers from stencils and the film itself. Using the film as a stencil and covered over with acryl mac lead you to the accurate results.
Every page follows the strict guides.

Lovely close up images. I really liked the places where text was overlapping the images, so there are many places in a book where this layouts can be seen.
